SLEEP. agreed.

I instructed my children to sleep in today.
Soccer season is over.
No stake meetings, no SATs.
My exact words were:
"If you sleep past 9, you get homemade french toast for breakfast!
If you're up before that, you're on your own."
I felt confident that the majority of the rest of us were looking forward to a lengthy morning in bed, and some nice warm french toast as a reward.
Mr. W., poor morning person that he is, had to work. So he was out the door by 5:30.
I, have no problem rolling over and going back to sleep.
BUT, when the 4-year-old is awakened by the 5:30 feet,
my dreams of a sleep-in started to fade.
After years of experience, I know that when a 4-year-old is awake, he is awake.
No coaxing his body back to sleep.
It only took a few minutes of him in my bed,
and I devised a plan.
"Hey," I said.
"How about I take you downstairs so you can be with the PBS kids while I go back to bed?
But the tricky part is, you have to BE.REALLY.QUIET. tiptoe! and whisper! because everyone else is asleep."
He bought it.
I didn't get to sleep until 9, but I did get an extra hour and a half. And when I came back downstairs to check on Mr. M, I found him sitting in the bean bag about 12 inches from the tv with an open box of bran flakes in his lap. Nobody else. Sweet! I was happy with our agreement, and the fact that I was actually able to go back to sleep. I was SO happy, in fact, that I offered him some nice french toast.
"Nope." he said.
"I'm having these."
I guess he was on his own.
An agreement is an agreement, after all.
The rest straggled down after 9, and breakfast was the reward.

Glad you snagged a bit more sleep! I slept in until...an embarrassing hour.

LUCKY! how did you guys not have stake meetings? my dear hubby was out the door by 7am...

Mr. W. HAD stake meetings, but work intervened and insisted that he be there instead. The bran flakes really cracked me up! But the sad truth of the cereal world is, that the bran was all that was left. Apparently Mr. M. has not developed brand name/sugar cereal loyalty yet.

you are clearly not your mother's daughter. i'm all for sleeping in when sleep is required, but nothing past 8ish. that's just BAD!

Yes. all those years of training, and I'm telling my kids NOT to get out of bed before 9! I'm a desperate woman. Mom would surely be apppalled.

I was up about the same time as you Jennifer, but I live where it is still 2 hours earlier... I haven't slept more than 5 hours straight in years.

I can never really go back to sleep. I am awake when Uncle D gets up at 6:00 every morning, 7 days a week. I usually get up at 7:00 or 7:30, it was 7:00 this morning because I had lots of things to get done before I left for church. Fortunately took my shower last night and washed my hair so didn't have to do that this morning. Was out of the house by 8:15. I don't have anyone to make me French toast--just me, myself, and I--oh well, I settled for Honey Bunches of Oats.
