FHE

And WHAT is FHE you ask?
let me tell you.

The F stands for family

the H is for HOME

and the E means evening.

Family Home Evening!

It's what we do on Monday nights.

From www.LDS.org:
Church leaders have instructed members to set aside Monday night as "family home evening." This is a time for families to study the gospel together and to do other activities that strengthen the family spiritually, create family memories, and increase unity and love.

Tonight, we've been invited
(YES! A family of 8 actually got invited to someone ELSE's home for family home evening!)
to another family's home
but let me share with you our FHE from LAST week:
The backyard s'mores party
with the Schenewarks! (minus 2)
We had a song
a prayer
a lesson
and FUN!

There's nothing like a little family time.
It's a bonus if you get to share it with another family
and even better if there are good TREATS!
What did YOU do for your last FHE?

We reviewed the BOM Gospel Art Kit for our lesson by the 9 year old. We then learned how to play marbles and played as a family. Treats? Ice cream maybe? can't remember.
Oh, and song was Star Wars Saga Begins by Weird Al (from memory) Thanks to the 7 year old.

(Ask Becky and LL who I am.) I met you at Youth Conference. I was the Sweetwater presentation

i was JUST talking to my kids about fhe traditions. I grew up in a home where family night was all about the party. We would eat out then go bowling or mini golf or whatever. I LOVED it, and I still have a really close relationship with my family. Then I marry Chris who's fhe was ALL lesson (perhaps a treat) and so we've tried to combined our two family traditions. We always have the prayer, song, talent, lesson and treat! good times.
As for last week...i remember ice cream. And a lesson on ??? shoot, I can't remember. This week, we will be dicussing the scripture....PHILLIPIANS 4:11 because that's my favorite scripture at the moment.
Happy FHE...enjoy your night with another family, sounds like FUN!

We've become pyro's this year with smores galore in the backyard! It is always a nice end to a summer day, so I am glad you got to experience. We gave out the father's before school blessings tonight. Even my 2 year old sat very still for hers. She did say Amen a few times during it, very cute. Always good times (from the right perspective some weeks!!)

Oh Jen Jen...must you ask? Can I plead sickness for the past 4 months as an excuse to not being able to remember what the last FHE was? Okay...it's not that bad over her at the Orton home. Amy was here a few weeks ago and she helped us get back on track. Thanks Amy Jo!!! (btw, Stevie gave the lesson on service)

tonight was the lesosn from the new friend on prayer, popsicles, and fathers blessings etc

I have to say our all time memorable lesson was the ice cream sundae lesson on keeping the sabbath day holy (when you put stuff like ketchup and salad dressing on ice cream- they are good things but not on sundae like lots of activties are good but not on the sabbath) seriously my kids were in tears that we were wrecking the ice cream it was hilarious but they got the point.

one of my other favs was our tongues of angels/tongues of grouchies lesson

LL- chris has not copied our fiery darts marshmellow throwing in your home??(with various size shields- as our protective spiritual preparation) he had to pelt my son with marshmellows when he visited our family night.

That's what I love about this blogging world--so much disclosure and so many great ideas! FHE and ice cream are almost inseparable at our house, and we did do the father's blessings (on Sunday, 'cuz we knew we were 'out' on Monday night) and smart mama--I MUST know about your tongue of angels/grouchies lesson! (I've never done the Sundae lesson either--good material for the next few weeks!

I wasn't home for last week's. But last night we went shopping as a family and enjoyed a micro-burst while we were at costco. I love the power of nature and the fury that a bad storm brings, by the time it was done there were a lot of trees down and a beautiful sunset. Then we came home and I grounded Hunter from his room for a week for tearing wallpaper off his wall. So I guess our lesson was on power and fury, on a large scale and on a smaller scarier scale.
