forCynthia

My favorite color is yellow.
For as long as I can remember I have loved this sunny bright hue.
All shades, really, but forsythia-yellow has a special place in my heart.
First to flower in Spring, it breaks the curse of winter.
There was a season in my life that felt like a long, cold winter with few meaningful friendships.  I was mothering a gaggle of young children and struggling to come to terms with my life; I was surrounded by hands and feet, but I often felt lonely.  Was THIS what I was meant to do? I often thought about my cyclical routine of housework, laundry, dishes and diapers...
Then Cynthia moved in around the corner, with her own gaggle of little people.
We nurtured a friendship that developed into a life line and crucial support system for each other.
She taught me SO much!
Most of all, she helped me embrace and cherish my children and my divine role as their nurturer.  It wasn't that she tutored me in mothering, it was that I observed how she loved her own little brood, and it helped me to look beyond the mundane.  Cynthia helped me focus less on the tasks of raising children, and more on the gifts of nurturing them.  She was the flowering Spring in the Winter of my young mothering.
I love her so!
A number of years ago, she moved away.
We don't talk nearly as much as we used to, but I place great value on our friendship.
When the forsythia bushes flower in Spring, I can't help but think of Cynthia.
