I just kept on turning the page...

I was really excited about reading this book. It is a collection of first period stories from girls and women of all ages, from all walks of life and from around the world. I love that it breaks the taboo of talking about menstruation (I always hated that word), and since I have three daughters, it has been a great conversation starter. Honestly, it started to get a little long after I was about half way through its pages, but I persevered, and can say that I truly enjoyed it.

Love the little pink panties on the front.

I can top "menstruation" for hated words. Menarchy or menarche. Means FIRST period. Used in ancient societies to mean it was time for a girl to get married. Nice. Like you aren't dealing with enough embarrassment all by yourself; lets involve the whole village. Oh, and MY FUTURE HUSBAND. I swear, our ancestors were positively barbaric.

STM: I agree wholeheartedly... I think menarche is just a strange word. It wasn't used much around me in my formative years, thus no ingrained vibes of hate for it, but HELLO! YES.Barbaric ancesters, and there are some cultures (TODAY!) in which girls/women are not allowed to be in the same room or share a meal with those who aren't having a period, so they are condemned to a separate dwelling/room for their week of shame. Irks me. Might as well pitch the red tent in the front yard. Don't get me started.
